Heat Action Plan 2026
Heat Action Plan 2026 - Cheriamundam Grama Panchayat
Cheriamundam Grama Panchayat has formulated this plan to effectively deal with extreme heat and heatwaves caused by climate change and global warming. Its main objective is to ensure the health and safety of the people and other living beings in the panchayat and to minimize hazards caused by heat. Extensive awareness programs are being organized to inform the public about the precautions to be followed to avoid sunstroke and dehydration during the summer season. Notices, social media, special school assemblies, and special Grama Sabhas are being utilized for awareness campaigns. Key guidelines are being conveyed to the public, such as drinking plenty of water even if not feeling thirsty, rescheduling working hours between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, and wearing loose cotton clothes. As part of short-term initiatives, drinking water kiosks (Thanneerpanthals) and temporary rest centers are being set up on public roads and bus stands to ensure the supply of clean water. Heat clinics are being arranged at local health centers, along with special care and health monitoring for bedridden patients and MGNREGA workers. A dedicated Nodal Officer has been assigned to quickly disseminate climate change warnings to the public. As long-term projects, planting saplings in public spaces, constructing cool roofs, and fully converting street lights to solar power are being implemented. Additionally, comprehensive activities are envisioned to protect water sources by cleaning ponds and streams, as well as for rainwater harvesting.
