Thalakkadathur Mahallu Juma Masjid

Cheriyamundam: Thalakkadathur Mahallu Juma Masjid stands majestically in Cheriyamundam, proclaiming the grand heritage of ancient times. Having been a favored sanctuary for Sufi scholars, numerous eminent figures resided and completed their religious education here. In the days when there were no mosques or burial grounds nearby, the people of this region relied on the mosques in Tanur.

"Understanding the plight of people having to travel long distances, Mamburam Thangal suggested building a mosque here. Subsequently, in 1830, Pattattil Komukkutty constructed the mosque at Thalakkadathur."

In 1882, Komukkutty's grandsons, Beerankutty and Komukkutty, registered the Waqf deed. The heritage architecture of the mosque and its serene surrounding atmosphere attracted many Sufis here. Under the leadership of the Sufi scholar Kammunni Musliyar, around three hundred students studied here and became Sufis.

Eminent personalities like Panakkad Syed Muhammad Ali Shihab Thangal, Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar, Chekannur Moulavi, and Valanchery Azhari Thangal stayed at this mosque and pursued their education from the Dars (religious seminary) here.
